What do Liberians, Haitians, Congolese, Hugo Chavez and gay right activists have in common ?
A couple of weeks ago, just after the Haiti earthquake, this man, Pat Robertson made the headlines by saying :
“Something happened a long time ago in Haiti … they were under the heel of the French, you know, Napoleon the third and whatever … and they got together and swore a pact to the devil, they said, we will serve you, if you get us free from the Prince.”
As if Haitians hadn’t suffered enough.
The man is an American televangelist (sic), very influential in the Republican circles. The influence he has comes from his success with his church and followers, and his media empire (his channel, the Christian Braodcasting Network, is broadcasted in more than 180 countries. But also from his businesses and connections.
His involvement in the Liberia war was confirmed, last week, when his old friend Charles Taylor threw him under a bus, and admitted Robertson was his man in the United States. So yeah, he directly funded Taylor (who got 10% of the company’s profits), and indirectly supported the child soldiers, atrocities, and rapes of the Liberian war.
On the same line, he also had investments in Mobutu’s Zaire. Mining and lumber concessions. So… Pat: Televangelist or businessman ?
